I grew up in a no-nonsense home. If we were told to do something, we did it, without asking for anything in return. Not that we weren't rewarded afterwards but when we were, it was a treat. I've tried raising my son in the same manner but he's quite a handful. I was one of the youngest so I followed whatever my siblings did. My son is the only child so he might be a little spoiled. I get the "Why do I have to do that?" or my favorite, "Can I get a *insert whatever he currently wants* if I do this?" if I ever ask him to do something.
At first, my husband & I used to give in & whatever he wanted, we would give him as long as he did what he was told. Now with an overflowing play room filled with things he barely touches but that he asked for – we decided it was better that he learned that things are earned not just by doing one little thing. The same way we have to work for things, he has to do a little more work to get what he wants as well.
Thankfully, I was able to find a FREE online chore chart for Kids that makes it easy to make earning rewards way more fun – My Job Chart!
Perfect for parents with kids ages 5-16, My Job Chart gives parents the satisfaction of seeing their kids gain the foundation skills of a strong work ethic and financial responsibility.
Kids are all about electronics. My son was talking to his 5 year old cousin the other day about TABLETS! Since they're growing up in a digital world, My Job Chart is perfect – each child can log in to their personalized page & view their chores for the day. Once the chores are done, they can earn rewards which they can save, share or spend. Save to earn more rewards to get what they really want. Share to donate to charities or spend – when they have enough to buy what they want.
I've told everyone I know about it & for some friends who have pre-teens, this was a HUGE hit! I had one friend thank me for the link since chores was something she had trouble with the most with her kids & this has helped them a lot. It's super easy to do & the best part is that it's free. No need to buy reward stickers & charts. Check out the video below on how easy it is to set up & use! 🙂
So if you need a little help in getting your kids to do chores or if you want to get a head start on teaching your kids about accountability & responsibility but in a fun way, be sure to check out My Job Chart for more information or to get started. You can also connect with them on Facebook & Twitter! 🙂
