Moms are usually the ones that are sought out for parenting tips on how to deal with how to deal with stress & messes but we aren't the only ones full of parenting wisdom. Dads have their share of tips too! Just the other day, I interviewed my husband to see if he would like to share his tips to new dads for dealing with parenting’s stresses and messes.
Q: What are your tips for new dads?
A: Sleep as much as you can & go out on dates with your significant other as much as you can before the baby comes. Once the baby comes, be prepared to not sleep as much, to not go out as much and to replace your favorite show with whatever is on Nick Jr. Also, don't be scared to actually help with the baby & don't question why you have to bring a bag full of items out with you every time – trust me, you're going to need everything your baby's mom packs and sometimes, even more.
Q: What do you wish you knew as a new dad?
A: I wish I knew how to set up a car seat & stroller before the baby came. I also wish I knew how fast babies grow. No need to buy expensive clothes and shoes for newborns who will most likely never wear the same thing twice. Also, just because it costs more, doesn't mean it's better. It's crazy how much money we spent on diapers that always leaked before we found ones that didn't & cost less.
Q: Were there any tips passed down to you from family members?
A: To know the difference between being a parent & being a friend to your child. Kids are kids & you should let them have fun & explore but know when it's time to set your foot down when things get out of hand.
Q: Any last words that you'd like to tell new dads?
A: Be patient. Stay calm. And enjoy your little one because it's true what they say – they grow up way too fast.
