Have you guys ever been to Bedsider.org? I hadn't until the other day & I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before! It's a great online network that focuses on birth control support for women 18-29 who are organized by the The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. Their mission is to help women learn more about the different birth control methods that are out there that they probably didn't know existed.
Taken from their website:
Right now, seven in 10 pregnancies among unmarried women 18-29 are described by women themselves as unplanned. That sounds like a lot to us. We hope that Bedsider will be a useful tool for women to learn about their birth control options, better manage their birth control, and in the process avoid getting pregnant until they’re ready.
They let you compare birth control methods to find out which one is the right one for you as well as where you can get birth control at the nearest health center near you or where you can get over the counter or emergency contraception in your area. They have birth control reminders, appointment reminders and they even answer a lot of misconceptions about sex and birth control.
How many times have you heard this: "I love kids but I’m not ready to have babies yet." ? Then the same person who said it is pregnant a couple of months later…? I actually have had this happen to a couple of people I know. Babies are wonderful – planned or unplanned but as Bedsider states, " We believe Babies are best when you're ready." A lot of people have babies when they aren't ready & they can run into financial, emotional and personal problems. It can be very overwhelming. It's best to be prepared & to be safe. There aren't any excuses – some health centers give free condoms. If your partner doesn't carry them, you should. It only takes ONE time to get pregnant – I'm sure you guys have seen shows on TV that can confirm this. Having a baby can change you and your partner's life forever.
Practice safe sex and if you're not sure about what birth control you could use, or if you have any questions about any kind of contraception, if you want to hear real life stories, be sure to check out Bedsider – you won't regret it. 🙂
